I have been woeful at updating this blog but I feel that it was time for another post. Since the Oscars just ended, i thought it would be a welcome topic for debate.
Best Picture: The Hurt Locker
This was the big award and like I guessed it walked away with the big prize. It was wonderful to see good tense filmmaking triumph over the epic spectacle that was Avatar. Maybe money doesn’t mean anything after all…
Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Congrats to Kathryn for being the first female director to win! She directed the best film in an Academy friendly subject. And who doesn’t love the fact that she beat her ex-husband (James Cameron).
Best Actor: Jeff Bridges
It was about time this man got an Oscar, but I was kind of pulling for Colin Firth and Jeremy Renner.
Best Actress: Sandra Bullock
Sigh…I don’t care what anyone says about her, she was in NO WAY the “best” actress. I like Sandra, but lets be real, she won this award for a weak performance and coasted on her likability and story. Its true that she elevated The Blind Side to watchable territory but was she really better than Gabby Sidibe or Carey Mulligan? Awards are supposed to be given to the best performance (see Mo’Nique) and she wasn’t even the best in her category. But alas, she will forever be known as Oscar winner Sandra B.
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz
I loved him in Inglorious Basterds and he was far and away the best in this category.
Best Supporting Actress: Mo’Nique
Performance over politics…thanks Oscar for showing it can be done. That confession at the end of the movie was just…words can’t even describe.
