It occcurred to me that I haven’t featured a red band trailer in this series so why not christen things off with two! The first trailer is for Ted, the R-rated comedy written by Family Guy mastermind about a man and his talking, pot smoking, foulmouthed teddy bear come to life.
Yes:
-Mark Whalberg might be built like an action star, but he’s really good when he’s eschewing his vanity or making fun of it. If anyone can sell schlubby comedy and assholeness (I know it’s not a word) in this film, it’s him
-Mila Kunis
-the fact that this film seems to be going for a hard R rating
-the name joke at the end
No:
-Supernatural has already covered the “stuffed animal come to life but not as you hoped it would” storyline
-The humor in this trailer doesn’t go beyond just fart and sex jokes.
Maybe So:
-seth mcfarlane is a great writer so if he reins in the raunch while still having the funny, this could be great
Cosmopolis
This next trailer is for Cosmopolis, the R-rated David Cronenberg film of Don DeLillo novel about a billionaire who loses his entire fortune over the course of the day.
Yes:
-this trailer captures the basics of the story pretty well
-David Cronenberg thrives with unusual subject matter and since most of this story takes place in a limo it should be wonderful
-oh hey there Samantha Morton and Paul Giamati!
-these shots
No:
-Robert Pattinson’s AGE. Unlike most people, I actually like the Twilight cast BUT I think RPatz is too young for this character.
-I know Cronenberg is known for gross out imgary, but I don’t need to see characters peeing on camera
-I’ve read the book and the plot is kind of implausible and foolish. Will the film be the same?
Maybe So:
-If RPatz can channel this character’s journey and if they can update the dated dialogue this could be great creepy fun
