By now you’ve probably seen the Teen Wolf Season 3 promo a million times now. And I’m sure all of us had the same reaction, what does it mean???? The gist of the promo is Scott is being drowned by someone in a lake (filled with wolfsbane) while a vicious wolf looks on. When he breathes his last breath, the camera pans up to reveal that its actually Scott (shirtless and showing off his tattoo, naturally) doing the drowning. What does this mean for our show? While there are many a theory about this season, including mine which you’ll see later this week, this first promo and tagline hints that this season is going to be painful for all of the characters but having a promo where the lead character is drowning himself is a big deal. Add to it the ominous imagery and score and it’s clear this season will be super dark.
So what to make of the brief promo? I think what this is hinting at is that Scott, whether by circumstance or just personal growth, is going to being going to a much darker, probably morally dubious place. Given that the alpha pack is coming to terrorize the town I think that Scott is going to have to leave that nice, dopey simple guy behind and become a tougher werewolf. Could this be what Tyler Posey was alluding to regarding darker, heavier scenes when I interviewed him at WonderCon last month?
On another note, wtf is up with that wolf on the side? I have been debating in my mind on whether that wolf is supposed to repressent the alpha pack or Scott’s own wolf wanting to be brought out into the forefront. We know the Alpha pack is coming to recruit Derek but Jeff has hinted that their motivations change during the course of the season. I think this could be leading us down the path of having Scott being more a part of the Alpha pack plans than we think..
Also note the wolfsbane in the water. That can’t be a good omen for anyone on the show let alone Scott.
