UPDATE: It has been confirmed that Tyler is in the running for this role.
Why is it that foolishness always happens in the morning? I can’t even begin my day with peace before I am slapped with an interesting piece of news. According to Cosmic Booknews, the alpha of Beacon Hills, Tyler Hoechlin, is being heavily considered to play the role of Batman in the Man of Steel sequel where Batman and Superman will share the screen.
First of all, what? Like I am stunned that they seem to have people are already screen testing so early, even if the movie is coming out in 2015.
As a fan of Teen Wolf, I am always happy when actors from the show get bigger movies and new work. It’s exciting to feel like you helped further their careers. However, this casting sounds like a terrible idea. Hoechlin isn’t even in the top 50 people I could have thought of for Batman. It’s interesting that Tyler Hoechlin is getting a try out given that most actors take on superheroes in their 30s and he is 25. The article mentions that they are looking for someone with a similar profile as Henry Cavil, but Cavil is in his 30s with years of film work behind him, so that comparison is an insult to his career. This is not to say that Hoechlin couldn’t be a good Batman but he seems awfully young to be playing Bruce Wayne. Even if they want to go young playboy with Bruce Wayne, Hoechlin will still feel like a child when put next to grown ass Henry Cavil.
Also, despite the good work he’s been doing on this season of Teen Wolf, Hoechlin is not that strong of an actor. With Batman being behind that mask a lot you can virtually plug in any person but they still have to command the screen and to me he doesn’t really do that.
All in all I don’t see this materializing in the end but it’s certainly a fun rumor to consider.
UPDATE: Tyler Hoechlin’s mom basically validating the rumor that Tyler Hoechlin is indeed being considered for Batman. Which is both amazing and horrifying. Although I do find it funny that she thinks he’s too young lol But these tweets do prove that he is in the running for the role
@IanBohen we decided tonight at dinner that if @TylerL_Hoechlin is too young for the Batman role it should go to you!!

@DerekHaleItalia think he’s too young but think it would have been awesome!!

@THoechlinNet it is crazy. Think he might be too young but let’s hope not

Hoechlin does look like an actual adult, so I don’t think he LOOKS too young to be Bruce Wayne. And he does have a lot of practice at brooding angst and emoting through ridiculous make-up and costuming, so…
Like you, I kinda hope it’s true for his sake and then I also hope his chemistry with Cavil shakes the screen and that his awesome can’t be ignored.
Hoechlin looks like an adult but a young one, which is perfectly fine and nothing is wrong with that at all. But up against someone like Henry Cavil who looks like a “man” or against any of the other rumored Batmans, he’s a bit young for the role
I feel like a crap Hoechlin fan, but he is not the man to follow in Bale’s footsteps or go toe-to-toe with Cavill. Tyler is getting better, the improvement between season 1 and 3 is phenomenal, but he just doesn’t have the gravitas or ability to command a role like Bats yet. Give him a few years, a few more roles under his belt, a chance to really hone his skills, and then yeah, maybe I could see it. Right now though? No way. Plus, I agree, clean shaven Hoechlin looks like a kid in his early 20s.
I don’t think you are crap fan for saying this, you’re honest. And I totally agree about the few years thing. I mentioned on twitter if he was up for this part in 3 years I’d totally be for it. It’s one thing to play older than ppl your age on Teen Wolf and another to play older agasint people older than you, which is what he’d be doing here.
I agree with you. While the type of role fits the ones he’s taken on, I always pictured Batman as a man in at least his mid-30’s, and into his 40’s. He doesn’t look THAT old. (And great thing is, though, if he doesn’t get it, it’s a good thing for his career to be considered AND he has his age as a good reason why he wouldn’t have gotten it.)
