Can I just say that I have terrible enabling friends? Last night I took some time out of my day to listen to the soundtrack for the TV version of The Sound of Music, debuting tomorrow and I was perplexed at the noises I was hearing and the struggle it was for certain members of the cast to sing the songs. My friend Courtney who is a terrible awful person and knows how much of a terrible person I am suggested I write a post about who they could have cast instead. I tried to rebuke this but then fellow blogger Brittney Bell suggested it seems like a legit post and like a weed the idea grew in my brain. I only have limited amounts of nice to give and my ears were not pleased with this music so here I am to name off 5 people who should have played Maria von Trapp instead of Carrie Underwood.

1. Anne Hathaway. Just won an Oscar for being in Les Miz and she can obviously sing live and hit the high notes so she’d be great.

2. Audra McDonald. I mean she slayed the fuck out of Climb Ev’ry Mountain so why not give her a crack at Maria? This is the TV version no one cares about the looks of the characters. And have you heard her sing Edelweiss?

3. Megan Hilty. NBC you know homegirl has pipes and she was leaps and bounds above everyone on SMASH. She would have killed in this part and we know she can tackle high notes.

4. Britney Snow. Though I am not Snow’s biggest fan, I think she has a great voice and her career would certainly give her the time to do this show.

5. Morgan James. Listen one of this days Hollywood is gonna notice the talent this woman has and her voice is so smooth. I caught here in Godspell on Broadway and loved her voice. Just peep these two completely different tracks and tell me she doesn’t have the range for this part, especially the end of Turn Back O Man.

    1. Listening to her and Carrie sing My Favorite Things is heartbreaking cause Audra’s voice is effortless…she’d have killed in that part
