New-HBO-Gay-TV-Show-Looking

There might not be a show I’m more excited for right now than HBO’s Looking and every trailer we get just increases the love. We finally get our 2nd official trailer for the show. Since the series is just around the corner (Jan 19!) I decided to watch the trailer and jot down some thoughts.

1. San Francisco looks to be a major character. My hometown and city I long for when I’m away is a beautiful place and fully deserves the TV series treatment. It’s vibrant in a way most places aren’t and especially useful for telling gay stories (did y’all see them at Folsom?) Hopefully they’ll show some of the less well known places.

2. At this point Jonathan Groff can do no wrong. I’ve loved Groff since Spring Awakening and nothing he has been in or contributed to has been pretty good.

3. The other actors aren’t slouches either. Murray Bartlett was great in the movie August, Scott Bakula is always solid and Russell Tovey managed to craft one of my favorite performances in the short run of Sherlock.

4. For all those actors though, the show seems awfully white if the trailer is anything to go by. I looked at the show’s IMDB page and though there were a few minorities, it didn’t seem like a ton of diversity. Given how multicultural the Bay Area is, I hope this series doesn’t fall into the trouble Girls has.

5. Andrew Haigh, who crafted one of my favorite films of all time in Weekend, is one of the driving forces behind the series so it has to be good.
