Every year it seems that we all say that it’s the best year for television. 2016 however, seems to have taken the cake for the most wide ranging year in television. Seems like the peak TV era will continue if this year is anything to go by. There’s just so much content now that you really have to be special, like these 10 shows, in order to make it through. Six freshman series made my top 10 tv shows, probably some kind of record for me, but how can you deny the brilliance of something like Westworld or Queen Sugar? It honestly wasn’t too difficult to make this list, but there was a fierce battle between The People v. O.J. Simpson and American Crime for the number one spot. Both are perfect seasons of television in my mind, with American Crime Story’s blistering look at race and gender as filtered through the trial of the century, and American Crime’s weekly dragging of us, our notions of sexuality, and class. Both shows ruined my life and spirit each week, and I was all to happy to return. Now that I’ve loved on some shows, I feel you are in the right place to view my top 10 tv shows of 2016 list. Enjoy!
