The final 2020 in review piece is here! The Oscar voters have finished voting, so this piece won’t necessarily influence anyone but I do love to do it as an exercise to choose my favorites in the various categories. As I mentioned in my top 10 movies post, this year has had incredible riches and when filling out my Oscar ballot, I definitely felt that. One fascinating thing about this year for me is while I normally am much better than the Academy at recognizing brilliance for all races and creeds, this year only 5 out of the 20 acting nominees were white. Come on people of color show out!
An unusual year deserves some unusual nominations. The Invisible Man led the pack with 10 nominations and Jallikattu led the pack with four wins. Neither of those films was close to winning Best Picture however, as Promising Young Woman took the top prize, in addition to directing and original screenplay. In total, thirty-six films got nominated this year and I am so excited to reveal my personal Oscar ballot.
